Paperless billing could save hundreds of thousands
Surrey and East Sussex have joined forces to launch a paperless billing service designed to save both the councils – as well as other businesses – hundreds of thousands of pounds each year.
The new electronic system – which is expected to be launched soon – will cut costs by automating most of the invoicing and payment process.
It’s estimated that the technology will save each council around £180,000 annually within three years of its launch through a combination of slashing time that would normally be spent on completing and processing around 125,000 invoices manually each year.
It’s also expected that the new system will help to cut invoicing costs for businesses by up to 40 per cent, according to new research from the National e-voicing Forum.
Surrey and Sussex Councils both plan to introduce the online e-voicing system, which will be provided by Taulia, in phases. This will start with it being taken on by the top 2,400 suppliers.
Denise Le Gal, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Business Services, said: “With our budgets under pressure, this is another great example of technology helping us work more efficiently while also saving businesses time and money.”
David Elkin, Lead Member for Resources for East Sussex County Council, said: “Going paperless means everything can be done more quickly and cheaply for the benefit of all involved.
“As one of Orbis’ first projects, this demonstrates the importance of working in partnership and the results it can deliver.”
